Yankees '08. Paintings and Drawings by Jane Rubin. Copyright Jane Rubin 2008. All rights reserved.

These live-action images were created spontaneously and rapidly during games at Yankee Stadium, in just seconds or in a few minutes, from a distance of anywhere from 100 feet to 30 feet away. The images were created while the players were at bat or in on deck circle, while they were in motion or between movements. While I have made more traditional portraits and figurative paintings and drawings, for the past ten years I have been exploring a more immediate way of working. I had been watching Yankees games for some time and in 2006 began to attend live games to sketch the players in action. (For optimal viewing of this page set your screen resolution to: 1680 x 1050.)
